The Ember Tetra (Hyphessobrycon amandae) is a freshwater fish of the characin family (family Characidae) of orderCharaciformes. It is native to the Araguaia River basin of Brazil and was discovered around fifteen years ago and named in honor of the fish explorer Heiko Bleher's mother (Amanda Bleher). This species is of typical tetra shape but grows to a maximum overall length of approximately 2 cm (0.8 in).; Most exhibit striking orange and reddish coloration with mild translucency near the pelvic fin. Ember's Tetra can grow to be 1.2" long including the tail. They are active and quarrel a bit with each other, but rarely do much harm. Recommended tank mates for the Ember's Tetra include, small fish like Guppies, Platys, Corydoras Catfish, and Honey Gouramis.Ember's Tetra are most comfortable at about 75 to 78 degrees F with a pH of about 6.5 with very little hardness. It is best to house Ember's Tetra in at least a 15-gallon tank, but more is better, because they can quarrel with each other. Keep at most one fish per gallon.
